What to Say About LIV golf
There have been many things said about LIV golf both good and bad, however it has definitely created a stir among both golfers and non- golfers. Let’s start with separating where the money for the funding comes from for the moment. i know you can’t really do that but for the sake of this article let’s just parlay that for the time being. i will write more on that subject as well if so choose.
- Why would you leave the comfort of the PGA or the DP tour to take a chance on the LIV golf tour if you can even call it that right now. Well lets be honest and forthright, MONEY. there have been many reasons stated by the players. Play less tournaments, well the LIV golf will have 14 tournaments next year and rumors are they will go to 20 the third year. SO playing in less tournaments is not the reason now when you are required to compete in all the tournaments per your contract. so playing less will not be the reason starting in 2023.
- less travel and more time with family. Seems as a tour member in good standing ( meaning the top 125 money winners) you are able to set your schedule to what and how many tournaments you want to play. the PGA tour is 15 tournaments a year to maintain your card the DP tour is 4 but certain tournaments are required. so to say that you play 30 tournaments a year is all up to you not the PGA tour. and you can strategically aline them to where you are not traveling across the country every tournament because the tour does there best to have them in certain areas for a time so it make travel easier. The LIV golf will have 7 tournaments stateside and 7 over seas so it seems travel will be more extensive for the LIV tour than the PGA or DP. the LIV golf will have essentially one every other week and that can be difficult to travel.
- The players say they like the more relaxed atmosphere. Let’s be honest, 48 players, no cut, shot gun start, every one gets money, sounds like my once a month Saturday MGA tournament than it does a competition. To me it is just a glorified exhibition not real golf and true competition.
- LIV wants to gain World ranking points for their tournaments. the reason every tour or make shift tour does not have world ranking point is because they should and are requirements for the ability to get them. It needs to be a 72 hole tournament, there needs to be a cut, it needs to be stroke play, which LIV has none of these except stroke play.
Just some of my views, it is golf to some extent. It is not real golf in my opinion, but like that people will watch and cheer and hopefully see it for what it truly is and not the PGA tour. it is a group of players that have taken a check to play golf.
