Senior inter-club at Walden on lake conroe.

I am back to playing in the senior inter-club again finally after my two surgeries. This is the second time i have played in the inter-club this year. I was fortunate to play with a great partner both times. This time with an partner i have played with several times in the past. It was great getting out and competing again even if i was unsure of my swing. It is a Wally’s good to put things under pressure to see what works and what doesn’t. Plus Walden is a very tight golf course off the tee and makes you try and steer the ball if your not confident in what you are doing with your swing. I am fortunate enough that i hit it just far enough that i don’t have to hit driver very often when i play the senior tees and it allows me the opportunity t hit the ball with a free swing with either a 3 wood or 5 wood. We started on one and as usual i hit a poor tee shot on the first hole and made bogie. However I came back and made birdie on the next hole and we were off to the races. I made birdies on 2-4-6-9 to shoot 2 under with bogies on 1-8 with a three on 8.

I made bogie on 10 with a poor drive, then birdied 12, and unfortunately bodied 18 with a second shot out of the middle of the fairway that just happened to go a bit long and into the bunker. I didn’t get it up and down for a smooth 71. This was a good event and a encouraging round for me because i made some birdies. This is what has been missing in my rounds as of late is i haven’t been making any birdies. I have hit the ball on the greens but not close. I have switched clubs, yes again to PXG 0311 irons. I enjoy the forged feel and since now it seems i am getting used to the clubs i am hitting the ball closer to the hole. I played Thursday and had 3 leaners for birdie. I haven’t had one of those i some time and to have three in one round was encouraging. All i all it was a good day and every thing seemed to click that day and i managed the heat and hit the ball well except for a few poor swings which of course caused me bogies. It is still in there i just have to be patient and continue to work on my swing and putting.

As always practicing putting and short wedges is what is going to make the difference in decent, good or great round. A putt can save a round or a good wedge shot and a putt can keep the momentum in a round when you happen to hit a poor shot. So don’t be afraid to practice putting all good players do.
