Round of golf @ Walden July 12, 2018

I had the fortune to play in the senior Interclub on Thursday at walden on lake conroe. The format is a two man best ball match play event with 20 players or 10 man teams playing for win.

I had the fortunate opportunity to play with and nw partner this Thursday. His name was Jim, and he was a good player and a very nice man. It was truly my pleasure to play with him. I am not sure he was thinking the same thing after i made double bogie on the first hole we played.

We started on 18 a good par 4 over water tree Lind and a bunker on the right.

I promptly pull hooked my tee shot in the trees left and then trying to hit a miraculous shot hit a tree and the ball cam down short of the water, i pulled it into the green side bunker, short siding myself and then wedged it on the green and 2 putted for a easy double.

A tough way to start the day i agree but it also makes you grind to the finish and stay in the moment. Thank goodness Jim made par for the win on that hole because i didn’t help.

I told him as we were walking off the green i would help him at least on one hole before the day was over. He asked me my handicap and i told him, not sure he believed me at the time, but before the round was over I think he believed me that i could play a bit. I finished the day with 72, even starting the day with a double. I stayed in the moment and had a birdie and 2 bogie on the front and 3 birdies on the back along with a double to shoot 37-35 -72. I hit 7 greens in regulation on the front and 7 greens on the back for a total of 14 , missing 1 fairway and having 32 putts. Not a bad round even with a difficult start.

I will say i learned that you have to trust the swing and go ahead and swing fully and especially through the ball and not try and steer the ball into the fairway. I tried to hit the ball in the center of the fairway on the first hole and it didn’t work well.

I did however enjoy the day and my partner and hope i am able to play with him again. We did win 2-1 to help our team win the day. I look forward to playing on the 26th again and looking to improve on the ball striking before we go to Kerrville to play in the Stableford tournament.
