Practice Round at Oasis ( Palmer)
We were fortunate to play with a couple of guys from Walden at the Oasis on Monday Memorial Day. We played with Jim, and Bob and they playing in the tournament in the masters flight which is the flight over 70 age group.
We had a good time and enjoyed the round and once again they helped us around the golf course because they have played so many years here in mesquite. They are good friends and have always been supportive of me playing here and actuality Jim was the one the told me about it. He won the tournament in 2015. Yes the whole thing and deservingly so, he has a great game and a good putter.
I shot 73 in the practice round and was encouraged after struggling so much over the last few months since my surgery. I have been grinding to find something i could play with in the tournament that would work. It has been difficult to find and for that matter still searching to this day. This has been the hardest thing i have ever done to try and get my game back from these two surgeries. Brad the traditions club member that came with me broke his ankle in October and has struggled as well but his handicap was adjusted a bit. Rightly so he was unable to play for close to 4 months.
My surgery has just affected my stomach muscles to where they are not there and i will have to get in the gym to regain what i had. I also get very tried after 13 holes and struggle to finish the round. What i have discovered is it has affected my Turing the most especially distance control.
This is the par 3 that bit me on the first day of the tournament. Hit it on the right side of the green and sucked if off and down the slope to a impossible place to get the ball up and down. Sometimes yu make good decisions sometimes you don’t. My ball was in the hazard and not a bad lie so I thought i could get it out and on the green. If i would have walked up to the top of the green and saw where the drop area was i would have taken the drop but i did not and there fore took and 8 on the hole and elevated my round to where it was not competitive that day. I 39 putts as well. I hit every fairway 16 greens in regulations and shot 80 with and 8 on this par 3 and 5, 3 putts.
Still a great day on the course and a good golf course.
